The sourcing of materials and components for ODM Rods all starts first in Jersey City, NJ USA. There are many components, equipment and processes that go into building the blanks. Components such as selecting raw carbon material, nano fiber, resin & nano resin, mandrel, rod eyes etc. It is really a global process to create and acquire the ODM proprietary materials for ODM blanks. Each family of rods is carefully conceptualized, designed and tested in NJ with the assistance of Team ODM.
The most important material, Carbon/graphite pre-preg (proprietary) for the blanks are supplied from several sources around the world, primarily from Japan. Once the proprietary pre-preg materials are finalized and produced, the blanks are finally rolled under the highest industry standards of quality control — and the process is closely monitored within our carefully selected overseas factories in China, Japan, and Taiwan, depending on the model at this time. Once the blank is rolled, a many rounds of design, building and testing of the complete surf rod takes place. All premier ODM rods are carefully designed, hand built, and tested in US.

I’m looking for a surf rod for my son’s birthday. He is an avid fisherman fishes a lot of tournaments. He is currently using a 9ft mojo surf to throw lures. He finds it a little stiff. Mostly throws metal but also plugs and sp minnows. I am considering the odm 9ft rods but don’t know which would be better: the DNA or the genesis. I’d appreciate your input. Thanks, Fred.
Hi Fred,
If your son finds the Mojo surf to be a little stiff, he may find the ODM Genesis to be a little stiff as well since both are medium action rods. I would recommend the ODM D.N.A with its moderate fast action. It’s designed for casting lures long distances in the surf and still has the backbone to fight and land big fish. If you go to tackledirect, they give you a 30 day refund or exchange period. Just be sure to not remove the tags and save the original shipping box.
