I have spent many years fishing Galveston Island, and it will always be one of my favorite destinations. This Texas gem brims with unique angling opportunities thanks to its strategic locale along the Gulf of Mexico. Whether I’m casting a line off a pier, jetty, or beach, or boarding an offshore charter, the fishing opportunities are endless.

For someone like me who loves all kinds of fishing, Galveston is a great destination. The waters around Galveston are home to more than 100 species of fish, making it a prime destination for both casual and serious anglers. Throughout the year, the waters around the island offer a wide range of species ranging from flounder and red drum in the fall to speckled trout and black drum in the spring.

But, be aware of the strong and dangerous currents in the pass. When the tide changes and starts rushing in toward the bay, or out toward the open gulf, you can be swept off your feet and out to see in an instant.
The pass is the deadliest fishing destination in Texas with far too many swimmers and anglers drowning after getting caught in the currents of the pass. Just be safe and stay on the beach. But if you must get in the water, please wear a life jacket.
