Hi – what about sand, specifically from fishing in florida….what about sand and the intake? the manufacturer provides no photos of safeguards against sand being sucked in the intake (at least I’ve never seen any photos). I’d love one of these, but fishing the Florida flats and backwaters, I see sand as a threat to the intake of the jet drive.

And, to get sand in there, it would have to be suspended or stirred up from the bottom. The short answer is yes, on occasion, you will get some fine sand through the jet, but it shouldn’t be a problem. If you are dragging bottom with your kayak, I wouldn’t recommend using the jet drive until you can get some water under the keel.
